Survey Head – Survey Site Review (June 2011)

Posted: 26 Jun 2011 09:10 PM PDT

Name: Survey Head

Link: http://www.surveyhead.com/

Who Is Eligible To Participate: Pretty much anyone

Type of Award Or Payment: Sweepstakes, Cash, E-gift Cards , Magazine Subscriptions and many many more

Points or Cash Normally Earned Per Survey:  0.50 – $3.00 USD

(Must have a minimum of $25 USD/CAD in your account to redeem)

Sign-Up Time: Pretty lengthy

How Many Survey Invitations Should You Expect Per Week: 1 – 20

How Long Does It Take To Collect A Reward Or Cash Out: On average 7 or 8 months for a $25 CAD/USD cash out

Do They Spam You: No

The Number of Survey I Have Received Over The Past 1 and 1/2 Since Joining Up: So far I have received way over 225 surveys (You'll need to log in. Just to see if there are any new surveys available via your dashboard.)

Overall Rating: 2.5 out of 5 – This survey panel has proved it self in spades to me. It has a decent amount of surveys and not that bad incentives. Although, I do want to say you won't qualify for most surveys. Overall this survey site earns itself another half a point (.5) upgrade over my last score back on (March 2011) of 2/5. Do to it's increase in direct e-mail survey invites. As compared to it's past hidden dashboard only survey invites. Well done SURVEY HEAD !!!

————-

**Extra Information: once you reach your $25 cash out minimum. Don't be surprised if it takes a 1 or 2 to get your chosen reward. It took me almost 3 months to get my Paypal payout of $30 CAD. "Not the worst I have seen, by a long shot. But no where near the best ether."

AVG Internet Security 2011 (10.0.1382) – Full Review

Posted: 23 Jun 2011 03:41 PM PDT

The Results Breakdown:

Passed – Did well in all of our tests

Acceptable – Could go ether way. But in most cases AVG passed

Failed – AVG did not work at all or only worked 1 out of 10 times we ran the test

Undetermined – Too soon to tell or lacking evidence to provide a solid answer

Not Tested – Has yet to be requested or there is some limitations to prevent accurate test

Currently Being Tested - In the process of testing feature and have yet to finalize results

————————–

Price: $54.99 USD

A. Installation AVGAcceptable – Slower then AVG claims.

B. Un-installing AVGAcceptable – Way slower then most other anti-virus programs.

——————–

C. Stability Of ProgramAcceptable – We have received a lot less e-mails about the lack of stability with AVG 2011 free and paid (This time around). So we are seeing an even bigger improvement in terms of stability and issues relating to installing and un-installing AVG Free and or Paid. So there still needs to be some work down in improving stability and the installing and un-installing processes for AVG 2011.

DISCLAIMER: No one thus far who works for The Computer Savvy Weblog has had any issues with AVG 2011 Free or Paid. But we will let you know if that does occur.

——————-

D. Speed of ScanPassed – Very quick on most computers. Also now you can decide how much memory you want to take up during each system scan.

E. Has AVG Free Been Compromised By Hackers Or VirusPassed – AVG Internet Security 2011 has not been compromised or disabled.

F. Internet Browser Cookie Detection Rate And Removal TestAcceptable - Getting better. But you are way better off with SUPERAntiSpyware or CCleaner to remove your Internet cookies.

G. Does AVG Free Do Automatic Updates By Itself Without IssuePassed – Yes, and this time around there seems to be no stalling and or hanging. When we manually update AVG. As we have seen in older versions of AVG Free 2011.

————————–

** One Click FixPassed – I really like this idea. But I am not a fan of the idea that if I want to de-activated a service. Such as the Link Scanner that AVG should still show it as not being fully protected.

————————–

1. Anti-Virus Detection Rate Test -

1A. Windows XP - Passed

1B. Windows VistaPassed

1C. Windows 7Passed

————————–

2. Anti-SpywareFailed – AVG still seems to miss very common and not so common spyware/adware. You are much better off with SUPERAntiSpyware or Spybot as your adware, spyware, malware protection.

3. Anti-Spam - Acceptable - GMail has better spam mail protection for free.

4. FireWall - Passed — Not the best Firewall I've tested. But it does do what it is suppose to.

5. Link Scanner - Passed - Can be very very useful to some.

6. Safe Search - Passed - I love this option and it's very very useful for all thous people. That want extra safe guards while surfing unknown sites.

7. AVG ToolBarFailed - Not a fan of any toolbars. The AVG toolbar is way to hard to get rid of. It also seems to slow down most Internet browsers.

8. AVG SideBar GadgetPassed – Love it and have it on both my Vista and Win 7 sidebars. But it is way to large.

9. Residential Shield TestAcceptable – I find that AVIRA and or AVAST still seems to grab the virus way before AVG does.

10. Family Safety - Currently Being Tested - Cost $19.99 CAD per year for 3 PC's to activate this just newly added option. But it covers unlimited profiles. So you can have just one or two kids or 11 kids and your good. Provided it is only used up to 3 PC's.

11. LiveKive - Not TestedThis option has just been added to AVG Dashboard. But it cost money to activate. -See below for cost to activate said option-

*Cost $49.99 CAD for 25 GB of storage per year.

*Cost $79.99 CAD for Unlimited  storage per year.

12. E-Mail Scanner - Acceptable - It's ok, But I find it is way more difficult to set-up then it needs to be.

13. Update ManagerPassed – No issues here at all. And it even updates faster then past AVG versions, such as 8.5 and 9.0.

14. Online Shield - Undetermined – Still not really sure how really effective this option is.

15. Anti-Root KitAcceptable – Very hit and miss. But can be very useful if there is a reason to believe you may have a deep rooted virus. Never hurts to run this every few weeks just to be on the safe side. And AVG has it as a completely separate dedicated scan option as well (Which makes it way quicker to run and it uses much less system resources.)

16. System ToolsAcceptable – Great idea but very poorly execution. Now the information is there but it is very very hard to decipher even for the more Computer Savvy of us.

17. PC AnalyzerFailed – If you don't mind that you only can fix your errors for free once then great. But if you are like me and you probably feel this options is both somewhat misleading and out right bait to buy this extremely expensive add-on. Then you are probably with me on my conclusion.

** On a side note I fully expected with the paid version of AVG Internet Security 2011. That the PC Analyzer would be an included as a usable option.

18. Identity ProtectionPassed – A very useful feature that lets you know when you maybe at risk for identity theft and or other important information maybe at risk. Such as with Peer 2 Peer programs and certain add-ons and or toolbars

————————–

Overall Rating: 12 Passed, 10 Acceptable, 2 Failed, 1 Undetermined, 3 Not Tested (Total # of tests done 27)

————————–

My Final Verdict Part 1: There has been massive improvements in stability of AVG Internet Security 2011. Both in AVG's features and the installation and un-installation processes of AVG Internet Security 2011. But there is still some work that needs to be done. Overall a much better product this time around. Now I can see some light at the end of this AVG Internet Security 2011 tunnel.

My Final Verdict Part 2: The fact that still remains unavoidable to me is that there are not many overwhelming differences. That I can see between AVG Internet Security 2011 and AVG Free Anti-Virus 2011 to get me to recommend the almost $60 USD price tag. But I still highly recommend it if you don't already have another virus program or you have the older AVG paid program. I would highly recommend that you at least upgrade to the newer AVG 2011 (Regardless of what I said in the above review. You are indeed still better off with the AVG 2011 version. As compared to AVG 8.5 or 9.0 versions).

If you still want to try AVG Internet Security 2011. Then I highly recommend the trailware version of AVG Internet Security 2011 first. Before you decide you want to buy it out right. That way you will know what you are getting into and won't have any mis-conceptions of what AVG Internet Security 2011 does and does not do.

**Lets hope that the next AVG product update improves on what could be very promising program moving forward.

10. Residential Shield TestAcceptable – I still find AVIRA and AVAST seems to grab the virus way before AVG free does. But there is indeed some major overall improvements here yet again.

AVG Free Anti-Virus Version (9.0.901) – Freeware Review

Posted: 23 Jun 2011 02:01 PM PDT

The Results Breakdown:

Passed – Did well in all the tests

Acceptable – Could go ether way. But in most cases it passed

Failed – AVG did not work at all or only worked 1 out of 10 times we ran the test

Undetermined – Too soon to tell or lacking evidence to provide a solid answer

Not Tested – Has yet to be requested or there is some limitations to prevent accurate test results

————————–

Stability Of ProgramPassed – No issues with stability at this point.

Has AVG Free Been Compromised By Hackers Or VirusFailed – Has been compromised a number of times. Which is part of the reason why AVG wants you to upgrade to the newest version of AVG. Which is AVG Free Anti-Virus 2011 (10.0.1388)

Speed of ScanBorderline Acceptable -  A lot slower then the new "AVG Free Anti-Virus 2011 version"

Does AVG Free Do Automatic Updates By Itself Without IssuePassed – Yes, and so far it seems there seems to be no .CRT or .BIN files errors thus far.

Residential Shield TestFailed – AVIRA and AVAST tend to detect viruses before they infect your computer. While AVG picks up the virus after the fact and often only when you run a full system scan.

Internet Browser Cookie Detection and Removal TestFailed - You are way better off with something like SUPERAntiSpyware. Which is a more dedicated program that will detect that type of file. AVG Internet cookie detection rate is terrible even with the option active and checked off.

Spyware/AdwareFailed – There is absolutely no surprise here. AVG Free seems to miss pretty much every type of Spyware or Adware we tested it against. We still feel that saying AVG Free is also an adware/spyware program as well as a virus program is a really hard pill to swallow. At least for the AVG Free 9.0.xxx version. I would stick to a dedicated program such as SUPERAntiSpyware or Spybot – Search and Destroy. Instead of trusting your computer to be fully protected with just AVG Free Anti-Virus 9.0.xxx alone.

Root Kit Detection Rate - Failed – Root kit detection rate is very hit and miss

Win 7/ Vista / XP Virus Detection Rate Test – Win 7 Acceptable /Vista Acceptable / XP Acceptable -  Across the board the detection rate seems to have remained very static. But no where as good as the AVG Free 2011 version.

Link Scanner/ Safe SearchFailed – I found no real good reason to use this option. There are a lot of false positive and some browser slow down. As well as some reported FireFox, IE and Chrome browser crashing. There is also quite dramatic difference in this option from AVG Free 9.0 to AVG Free Anti-Virus 2011. Even in just overall usefulness and effectiveness.

E-mail ScannerFailed – Your are way better off just upgrading to AVG Free Anti-Virus 2011. There is such a difference in this option from AVG Free 9.0 to AVG Free Anti-Virus 2011. Even in just overall usefulness and effectiveness.

————————–

My Final Verdict: You are way better off just upgrading to the new AVG Free Anti-Virus 2011. So you have the best possible protection for your PC. But if for some reason you can't upgrade to the newest version of AVG Free Anti-Virus. You are still way better off having this or another Anti-Virus program installed rather then none at all.

Other Important AVG Free News: 2 things first off this version of AVG is no longer available to download. So unless you already have it installed on your computer you are out of luck. And secondly AVG Free Anti-Virus 9.0 will no be supported for much longer. So it is highly advisable as I said above to upgrade to the new AVG Free 2011 and or other such freeware and or paid-ware anti-virus program solutions.
